Netzwerk and Musashinto Tech – Opening May 29 at Toy Art Gallery!

Netzwerk and Musashinto Tech

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m very happy to announce our very first exhibition: Netzwerk and Musashinto Tech – New Works by Daniel Goffin and Martin Osuna! Daniel and Martin are easily some of the finest figural artists working today and we are proud to host them for their first U.S. show. Their work captures everything that’s exciting about this new world of Toy Art: exceptional craftsmanship and design with a dash of pop-art and loads of personality. Each and every piece that I’ve seen so far has blown my mind and I’m excited beyond belief to actually see these in person!

Opening reception is May 29 2010 at our Hollywood gallery (click here for directions) and the show runs until June 12. If you’d like to get on the preview list email info@toyartgallery.com.

Below is just a sampling of what’s to come…

WWR Dropcloths up for Pre-Order!

3A and Ashley Wood are one of those truly great companies that are really pushing the limits of what a “toy” can be. Each and every single piece they produce is hand-painted by master artisans, and all aspects of the toys are guided by Wood’s clear and concise vision. Because of this pain-staking attention to detail and the quest to have the highest quality around (certainly beating out the “big” designer toy makers by a long shot) , all of their figures are produced in extremely low numbers and they sell out quick.

That being said, they’re also fun as hell and an amazing value. We have their latest retail releases, 5 awesome variations of their newest 1/6 scale (12 inch) WWR ‘bot Dropcloth up for pre-order in our shop, and if they’re like any other of the WWR releases they are sure to disappear into collections and never to be seen again!

Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez visits TAG

We here at TAG are very excited to be working with the internationally-renowned artist Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez on a variety of extremely cool projects. Carlos visited us from Venezuela this past week, bearing a bevy of his insane, pychedelic and beautiful kaiju-inspired figures including the Brain Mushroom, the Vagina Head and the Brain Vagina. One of the main focuses of Carlos’ trip was to work on the aforementioned very cool, very secret projects, all of which will be revealed on the blog in the coming weeks!

Here are a few shots of Carlos with his pieces around the gallery, including one of TAG’s very first acquisitions, the exquisite Belzor. Stay tuned to the blog for more Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez, including our recent trip to Japan and Carlos’ very first……??

Collection Addition: Cris Rose

Amidst the activity in preparing for his first US gallery show (see previous post), Cris Rose managed to ship  this incredible assortment of beautiful toys to us! Cris is definitely one of the top customizers in the world. His work has a clear concept, top quality workmanship, and a respect for the original toy that sometimes is forgotten in custom work. His original resin designs are equally clever, with numerous embedded objects and artifacts that follow his omnipresent theme of environmental awareness and conservation.

Make sure you check out his work at Rivet, and keep checking back for some more cool Cris Rose news.

Carlos Enriquez-Gonzalez and “Toy Art” on BBC FOUR

Steve Agin talks about Toy Art at the Philips de Pury NOW auction for the “Man With The Golden Gavel” special on BBC Four. We see lots of our favorites in the clip, including work from Bob Conge, KAWS, Bwana Spoons, and more. Carlos’s “Brain Vagina” is featured, along with a short glimpse of his Astro Boy.

If you’re in the UK, you can view the whole program here. If you’re not, you’re out of luck like us. If anyone has a copy or can get a copy, please contact us at info@toyartgallery.com!
