SACRED TRIP – Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez opening Jan. 21st 2011

Toy Art Gallery is proud to present “Sacred Trip”, new work by Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez. “Sacred Trip” continues Gonzalez’s exploration of the divide (or lack thereof) between Man and God, man and woman, and toy and art. Gonzalez’s work challenges the viewer with an intermingling of grotesque, sexual, and childlike symbols, which together produce wholly original, substantially, and more importantly, beautiful works of art.

“The sacred trip, the light and the darkness.
Look up the universe’s mysterious unknown.
Nothing is like it seems. What is outside is inside, what is inside is outside.”
-Carlos Enriquez-Gonzalez

Among the materials used by the artist for his work are fiber glass, plastic, automotive paint, crystal, gold, platinum, diamond, metal and raw meat; connecting an aesthetic three-dimensional finish with more organic materials. Mushrooms, eyes, monsters, brains, human parts, sacred elements, and sexual organs are some of the symbols that refer to the artist’s world, as well as his concerns on energy, power, intuition, parallel worlds, multidimensionality, and tunnels of time, all reflected in his work in a provocative and transgressive manner.

Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1968. He studied in the “School of Visual Arts Cristóbal Rojas” (1989, Caracas , Venezuela ), “Art Student League of New York ” (2001, New York , NY. USA), and a Master of Practice and Review of Contemporary Visual Representation Systems from the “University Institute of Higher Education on Plastic Arts Armando Reverón” (2002, Caracas , Venezuela ).

“Sacred Trip” opens January 21st 2011, from 7-11 PM, and runs through February 19th.

Tan-Ki Show Set-up plus Preview is posted!

Tanguy Marion, aka Tan-Ki, made his way to Los Angeles from France this week in preparation for his show ““When Birds Sing The Song Of The Clouds”. Here he is unpacking the dozens of custom toys and paintings!

Tan-ki brought over 60 KiClears with him alone, with more on the way. He also painted a variety of vinyl and resin toys (rubber dinosaur, anyone?) with his signature graphic style and decorated the gallery walls and windows with his bird and cloud motif.

Debuting at the show are his new bronze KiToy and his huge 8″ KiClears!

Come on out to the opening this Friday Nov. 12th from 7-11PM to hang out with Tan-ki, get some drinks, eat some food from the Little Frenchie food truck and have an all-around good time.

Be sure to check out the SHOW PREVIEW and email us at 12 noon on Friday if there’s something that catches your eye.
