Stingy Jack was a miserly, inebriated, and generally disagreeable old man who lived in Ireland in the past, according to mythology. It is reported that twice in his life, Jack confronted the Devil and defeated him. He asked the Devil to leave him alone for seven years on the first occasion. Jack promised the Devil twice that he would never steal his soul. Due to his depravity, Jack was denied entrance to Heaven when he finally passed away. Jack entered Hell in search of a place to stay. The Devil, on the other hand, reminded Jack of his vow to never take his soul and instructed him to return to his original location, effectively turning him into a wandering ghost.
