Ron English is a modern American artist who studies brand iconography and advertising. He is well-known for his use of color and collaged comic books. Images created in English have appeared on the street, in museums, in books, movies, and on television. POPaganda is the term he invented to describe a mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his original characters, such as MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot from the film Super Size Me, and Abraham Obama, a hybrid of America's 16th and 44th Presidents. Other graphic, humorously understated figures in English's paintings, billboards, and sculptures include grinning skulls, three-eyed bunnies, and cowgirls.
